Anyone who knows me knows that Hitster and Hitster: Guilty Pleasures are my current favorite party games. Since its initial launch a few years ago, the game line has grown by leaps and bounds. Today, it features several different international editions, including the recently released Hitster: All American. For those who have yet to discover it, the game challenges you to create a musical timeline, based on the release year of songs that are played from a device using a free “Hitster” app. The first player to create a timeline of 10 songs wins. Songs cover a wide time range from the 50’s all the way up to present day.
At Toy Fair, Jumbo Group revealed the newest edition to the Hitster family, Hitster Music Bingo. This game differs from the others dramatically, since there is an actual game board, with a striking, light-up, disco ball in the middle. The ball turns, creating a small beam of light which travels as the ball turns, landing on one of 5 wedge shaped areas which correspond to 5 categories in the game. Once the category is selected, a card from the corresponding category is picked and the song is played. You then have to respond, by writing the answer on the bottom of your dry erase bingo card. Everyone plays at the same time and the first person to record a correct response wins the card. That person then marks off a corresponding colored space on their card. Play continues until someone gets Bingo. Each card is timed and that timer is represented by a flashing light sequence on the disco ball. It is fast, fun and frenetic, as you are forced to think within the confines of your specific category. I had a lot of fun playing the demo version that had at Toy Fair and have no doubt that the final version will be just as fun and engaging.
